Faxon Firearms, FX7 DLC Action, .470" Bolt Face
FAXON FX7 MATTE DLC BOLT ACTION RECEIVER - .308 BOLT FACE
The Faxon FX7 is a precision bolt action receiver manufactured by Faxon Firearms in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is built on the Remington® 700 short-action footprint — the most widely supported standard in custom rifle building — which means it accepts Remington 700 pattern triggers, stocks, chassis systems (KRG, MDT, Magpul, XLR, Manners, McMillan), and scope bases without modification.
The receiver body is machined from 416 stainless steel and finished with ArmorLube™ Matte DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) — the mil-spec coating designated MIL-PRF-32711. ArmorLube™ is a PVD-applied coating that increases surface hardness, reduces friction, and improves corrosion resistance while providing a satin, low-glare finish ideal for field and tactical use. The bolt is machined from 4340 carbon steel with the same ArmorLube™ treatment and features Faxon’s signature flame fluting — a design element borrowed from their industry-leading barrel line.
Unlike legacy Remington 700 actions that use a two-lug bolt requiring a 90-degree throw, the FX7 uses a six-lug configuration arranged in two rings of three lugs. This allows a shorter 70-degree bolt lift, providing faster cycling and greater clearance under low-mounted optics. The FX7 also includes an integrated 20-MOA Picatinny rail and an integrated recoil lug, eliminating two components that are typically purchased and installed separately on other platforms.
ArmorLube™ Matte DLC (MIL-PRF-32711)
Both the receiver body and bolt assembly are coated with ArmorLube™, a Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating applied via physical vapor deposition (PVD). ArmorLube™ is the mil-spec coating designated MIL-PRF-32711 — the same specification used by DEVCON for military and defense applications. It achieves surface hardness significantly exceeding traditional nitride or Cerakote finishes while providing a satin, low-glare surface that reduces visual signature in the field. Unlike coatings that sit on top of the substrate, DLC bonds at the molecular level, meaning it will not chip, flake, or peel under normal use.
6-Lug Bolt with 70-Degree Throw
The FX7 bolt uses six lugs arranged in two rings of three, which distributes locking force more evenly across the bolt face than a traditional two-lug design. The 70-degree bolt throw — compared to the 90-degree lift on a standard Remington 700 — means the bolt handle travels a shorter arc, providing faster cycling and greater clearance under low-mounted optics. The shorter lift also reduces the chance of knuckle interference with large objective scopes.
M16-Style Extractor & Plunger Ejector
The FX7 uses an M16-style extractor machined from S7 tool steel rather than the traditional Sako-style or Remington clip extractor. S7 tool steel is a shock-resistant grade chosen for its ability to withstand repeated impact loading without fracture. The plunger-style ejector uses a 12L14 steel body with a coil spring, delivering consistent, positive ejection regardless of cycling speed.
Premium Internal Components
Every component in the FX7 is purpose-selected for its role. The firing pin is 17-4 PH stainless steel heat-treated to H900 condition for optimal hardness and fatigue resistance. The cocking piece and bolt stop are 4340 carbon steel with flash nitride for wear resistance. The trigger hanger is 416 stainless steel with nitride coating, and the bolt shroud is 416 stainless steel with flash nitride. Firing pin and extractor springs are sourced from W.B. Jones, a specialist spring manufacturer.
Flame-Fluted Bolt
The bolt body features Faxon’s signature flame fluting — a pattern inspired by their barrel line that is both functional and distinctive. Flame fluting reduces bolt weight, increases surface area for improved debris clearance, and adds a visual design element unique to the FX7 platform.
